Apartment Review for Windrift - Oceanside, CA

We were happy with the management of Windrift apartment until we were moving. The maintenance guys came in to inspect the apartment, and they asked us to pay $1500 for replacing the carpets, touch up paint and cleaning-up. We were told that the carpets were replaced right before we moved in. As three of us (my husband and I plus our 4 year-old) had only been living there for 10 month and most of time were away from home, I couldn’t believe it when the maintenance manager said that our carpets had worn out. He also pointed out a torn piece in the corner of our bedroom where we kept our wardrobe. We were surprised to see it. When we said that we never noticed it when moved in and there was no way for us to damage it because it was underneath our wardrobe, he offered to check the move-in list and insisted that we have signed it off. It turned out that nobody had ever showed or asked us to sign the move-in list. Someone at their office just checked off things in the apartment on the list by him/herself. It’s outrageous to rip people off when they move out. After serious negotiation, we were still end up paying near $800. I don’t know if they really did replace the carpets. Even if they did, with their long time contractor doing the work, they would pay much lower price than we did to them I would think. The apartment was right by noisy streets. Many times motorcycles and trucks passed by in the night which was VERY noisy. We didn’t mind the noise, or the dark and cramped space, even the very dirty shower which sometime hot water barely comes out. We were very upset with experience when moving out Windrift. We wouldn’t recommend this apartment to anyone.
