Apartment Review for Island Club Apartments - Oceanside, CA

My husband signed a 6-month lease on October 11, that we tried to cancel on October 13, because the situation changed. We offered to pay all expenses for the washer and dryer rental, had not actually taken occupancy of the apartment, and there were no potential lessees turned away as a result. The bottom line is that they were not going to lose a penny on the deal. We were even willing to pay any administrative costs involved with the lease. On Saturday, when we tried to cancel the lease, we were told that the manager was out and would call us on Monday. When we did not hear from her on Monday, I called again and left a message for her to call. After many attempts to get a call back from the manager, my husband dropped into the office personally (during normal office hours), waited awhile, but nobody showed up. We continued for weeks to try to get a call-back from the Manager. Eventually, my husband was able to speak to her about the situation, which we were told repeatdly she was briefed on. She told my husband that she might consider letting us pay for the 3 months washer & dryer rental and only 2 months apartment rental. She told my husband she would call back in 24 hours. She never did. More than a week later, the manager called my husband to inform him that a 30-day vacate notice was placed on the apartment door, and that we were responsible for the full 6-months worth of rent! When he reminded her of the converation they had, she denied everything! I don't believe the contract backs up the requirement that we pay the full term of the lease, especially since there is an early termination fee = 1.5 months rent. What would the point of THAT be if you had to pay the full term of the least anyway! We have hired a lawyer and will be taking legal action against them. PLEASE DO NOT SUBJECT YOURSELF TO THE UNETHICAL TREATMENT OF THIS APARTMENT COMPLEX.
